Don’t forget “old school” social networks

On May 18th, 2003 I needed help on a Flash piece.  That was three years before Twitter was developed and Second Life was just getting launched.

So I posted a brief question on a forum. More than six years later, that post has become a pseudo-cult classic on that forum and the numbers speak for themselves.

112,589 views to date! So don’t discount forums as part of your social networking.  They do affect your SEO as well.

The great thing about forums is that they often need to have “real” content that have value to the community. It’s not enough to simply retweet someone’s blog post.

Social Networking Referrals Show Worth

posted in: social media | 0

Social networking campaign for a second Life business.  Referrals to a blog listed by source and number over a two week period. Twitter – 553, Facebook – 157, total of 1,284 from August 13th to 27th. See image for full list of referrers.

Current followers/friends – 3,044/1,223 and most of the updating is done by automatically tweeting out from the blog and uploads to Flickr.  Very little time spent in either Twitter or Facebook (to be fair, the time is in the blog, but multiple authors help that effort – then it’s about 10 minutes a day for twitter and FB).
